For centuries, the United States and France have had a
friendly relationship. Both nations have always had the desire for freedom,
democracy, and human rights.

Every year, we celebrate on the 4th of July our independence,
and remember the struggle and sacrifices of our forefathers.
The “Statue of Liberty” was a gift from France to the people of the
United States on July 4th, 1884 in recognition of friendship
between France and the United States
during the American Revolution.

“Bastille Day” is a national holiday in France, celebrating the beginning
of a new government. France was a monarchy, ruled by kings and queens
with very little consideration for the people. The Bastille, a political prison,
was full of French citizens who demanded a change in how the country was
ruled. So, on July 14, 1789, the French citizens gathered together
and stormed the Bastille.

The American and the French Revolution brought great changes,
not only for themselves, but also to the rest of the world.
We, the people, rule ourselves and make our own decisions.
